This is where religion needs to understand the health affect.
The report is sure to reignite a long-simmering debate over public health and religious liberties: the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported on Thursday that 11 baby boys in New York City were infected with herpes between Nov. 2000 and Dec. 2011 following an ultra-Orthodox Jewish circumcision ritual called metzitzah bpeh or oral suction in which the mohel puts his mouth directly on the newborns circumcised penis and sucks away the blood.

this is insane! hospitals are supposed to be sanitary, not spread an excruciating, lifelong, highly contagious virus. poor babies. that's not fair.
Kristin Klingman
They are places for sick people and are rife with viruses and drug resistant bacteria that even attach themselves to hospital workers' gowns. Google it, seriously. A common misconception is that they are sanitary, but they are far from it. If you are not ill, stay away from hospitals.

This story is so sad.

you made some good points here Kristin. I'm too scared to google it, but you're right, I should educate myself on the subject. Especially since I plan to have a family someday, I need to know what to do to protect myself and my newborn and how to prevent this kind of thing from happening.

It is true what they say, that ignorance is bliss. Sometimes I wish I could forget some things. But, knowledge is also power. If we are able to access that knowledge, then we can hopefully use it to our benefit. When you decide to start your family you will have nine months to read up on everything related to having a baby!
Antonia Sanchez
I will definitely read everything I can possibly get my hands on to educate myself about babies! Educution and knowledge extrememly important to me.
Antonia Sanchez
education* wow. that's embarrassing.
Antonia Sanchez
extremely* man I need to proofread!
Kristin Klingman
haha, I wish this had spell check!
