China's Yi Siling won the first gold medal awarded at the London Games when she was victorious in the women's 10-meter air rifle. The 23-year-old world No. 1 and gold medal favorite defeated Poland's Sylwia Bogacka in the final. Bogacka won the silver medal. China's Yu Dan collected the bronze medal. "I'm very happy. I want to say thanks to China, to my mother and father" Yi said. "'I'm very excited and happy. I have been shooting since I was 13 years old. I've been up since 5 a.m. this morning. There was a lot of pressure on me." Jamie Lynn Gray of the U.S. finished fifth and Sarah Scherer seventh.
